4 of us (Ian, Robin, Pete & myself) met up at Inglesport cafe for breakfast to discuss what trip to do. We’d brought kit to do Yordas or Heron, or both should there be enough interest & time. We decided that Heron in & out would be sufficient, none of us fancying a crawl in water to do a pull-through trip. Nathan didn’t join us for breakfast but was coming, and we half-thought about trying to convince him we we’re doing a pull through just to see how long we’d make him grimace 😉

Meeting at the Yordas lay-by, Nathan saw straight through our ruse. We changed and packed the ropes. We decided to do both routes, and do an exchange trip

L-R: Stuart, Pete, Nathan, Ian (in the entrance) and Robin at the entrance to Heron Pot

Arriving at about 11:00, we entered the cave and progressed through the entrance series to the pitches. Pete rigged the traditional route, with Robin and Ian following. I rigged the high level route with Nathan following. Nathan turned back while navigating along the traverse due to the foot holds being slightly further away for him than they were for me 😉 He joined Ian and came down the traditional route

Once back together we ventured off down the passage until we found the stooping hight, water filled passage and turned back.

Ian and Nathan had had enough and said they’d head out. Pete, Robin and myself had an explore up a high-level passage Robin spotted which led to a small chamber with some formations and a final larger chamber beyond. We took a picture before turning back

The climb back down to the passage was taken with great care

Once back at the pitches, Robin and Pete de-rigged the traditional route while I did the same for the high level route. I tried my pantine foot jammer but it kept coming off - more practice needed!

We met up at the top of the pitches and made our way out around 2:15pm where we found Ian and Nathan waiting for us.
